South London pop-soul luminary Only Girl returns with hazy, shimmering R&B single ‘Heights’, available to stream now.
Set over sparse drum kicks and snares, the airy summer-ready track celebrates the euphoria and strength we get from those that lift us; “I know you can take me higher, higher – and I can only reach those heights with you.”
Speaking about the track, Only Girl explains “This song started life in my studio as just two chords on the piano, looping round and round. I wanted to create a really dream-like, hazy vibe to the track to convey that feeling of being with someone who lifts you up and gives you that sense of elation and strength; those support figures in our life who we reach out for when we feel broken.”
‘Heights’ follows the phenomenal success Only Girl achieved with previous single ‘Fortune’ earlier this year, which included a personal request from Demot O’Leary to perform on ITV’s The Nightly Show to millions of viewers and a top slot in Spotify’s renowned ‘New Music Friday’ playlist.
The last few months have seen The singer-songwriter collaborate with emerging Parisian producer Kultur, part of the Nowadays Records family, on ‘Love You Better’, which went on to reach over half a million streams on SoundCloud in just a few days. The pair are now working on a highly anticipated material for the producer’s upcoming EP, with Only Girl also spending fruitful studio time with long-term collaborators Zero 7.
To date Only Girl has driven widespread acclaim across BBC Radio 1 (Huw Stephens), BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music (Lauren Laverne), XFM (Tom Robinson, John Kennedy & Jo Good), BBC Radio 2, Edith Bowman in ELLE, and online tastemakers including The Fader, Noisey, Red Bull, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, The 405 and DIY.
With powerful performances at Glastonbury, The Great Escape, a support slot on BROODS’ UK tour and previous sold out headline shows at London’s Electrowerkz and The Courtyard Theatre under her belt, Only Girl has announced her largest headline show to date at The Borderline on Thursday 23rd November, presented by DHP Family.
